ODR and Ethics

On Friday, November 5, I will join four colleagues in a discussion of ethics related to mediation, particularly as mediator ethics are affected by the use of information and communication technology. Our panel is part of the larger “Mediation Beyond Boundaries” skills institute – we are up at 2:45 pm Eastern – more information and registration for this ABA event is available at: Mediation Beyond Boundaries

Instant Mediations Podcast, Plus

The “Plus” is that I have over the past month recorded a few video sessions on topics related to ADR and ODR. There’s a video on Standards and Ethics that I did with Mediate.com – Standards (from @00:39:00 through 01:04:25) – and one that I did in conjuction with the ODRLatinoAmerica Expo on ODR as a choice of communication channels – ODR as Com (from @04:10:30-04:27:30 and @04:36:30-04:39:30). In addition, I just recorded a shortish (20 minute) session with Mac and Natalia from Instant Mediations. This session will be part of an ongoing podcast and streamed series on various topics related to mediation. The session I just recorded is available here – Human. All of the sessions will be available through the Instant Mediations web site – IM

ODRLatinoAmerica

I just got this nice acknowledgement from Alberto Elisavetsky at ODRLatinoAmerica, the premier online dispute resolution organization in Latin America. Alberto and ODRL are amazingly active – they do a huge amount of training and education around the region, and they regularly host ODR events like the ODR EXPO that just ran late last month. I am honored to be recognized by ODRLatinoAmerica.

Publications

The latest edition of the IJODR (hard copy and electronic) are now out. Volume 8 issue 1 is with the text editors (including a re-translated article produced by Larry Bridgesmith and me for publication in Portuguese as a chapter in a book in Brazil), and I will soon announce a second call for student essays to make up the second issue of Volume 8 later this yeear. In addition, we are finally nearing the publication date for the ODR Theory and Practice Book – it’s been a long, strange trip, with a COVID detour in the middle, but we are nearly there.

Blog Post

We just got a very nice note from the managers of the WK blog, indicating that, “on behalf of the editorial team, I am delighted to let you know that your post “Mediating online is so much more than doing it on Zoom” was one of the most popular posts on the blog last month.” The post, regarding Zoom and mediation, can be found at POST
